W.A.F.T.A   A.G.M.  - CHAIRMAN'S REPORT For Year 2007

Although membership figures are relatively stable, we understand that Pontypool Club may officially close at the end of the year with membership being transferred to Blainau Gwent Club. Meanwhile shoots will continue to be held at their ground as arranged.

Highlights of the year: -

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP – I am very pleased to remind everyone that Mark Shepherd, from Avon Hawks Club is the current European Champion. Congratulations.

HOME INTERNATIONAL – Held in England and this time we reverted to our usual place of being second having narrowly beaten Scotland.
THE WELSH OPEN/GRAND PRIX 1 - another successful event which had hot, yes hot weather with a tricky wind especially in the afternoon.
WAFTA/SWEFTA Shoot – Held in Castleton and  this time it was our turn to win and retake the Trophy.
JON THOMAS MEMORIAL SHOOT – this was held in at the year’s end and the shield donated by Jon’s family, presented to the winner – Dorian Falconer
WELSH MASTERS – Won by Chris Land from Nelson Club. Well done. Thanks to all who organised the day.
B/GWENT Event – Once again B/Gwent were involved with Merthyr Tydfil Council's Event at Cyfarthfa Castle and showed the acceptable face of Air Gunning to the general public. Thanks must be given to Howard Lloyd and his team.
USK SHOW – A joint effort by Castleton, B/Gwent and Pontypool during the Summer, provided a mini main course for visitors to the show,.
PRESENTATION NIGHT – The Annual Presentation night for the first five places in Groups A, B and C was held in November 2006 at the Hafodyrynys Rugby Football Club. Again many thanks to Marilyn Snook and helpers who both organised the evening and provided the excellent buffet. Thanks also to Mark  Bassett for the obtaining the Trophies.
WEB SITE – Again we thank Wayne Wixey for running, editing and
being responsible for our Web Site, in such a professional manner and also our thanks to John Johnson for maintaining the Stats for us.

Finally, mention must be made of Dorian Falconer who became Welsh Champion by attaining maximum score by winning all six qualifying shoots this year – an all time record.

Unfortunately, we are about to lose our Secretary, Derek Winslow who is moving away from the Area but takes our thanks for the past year and for his attendances at the BFTA meetings.
Thanks again to our Treasurer, Gwyn Robinson, for his efforts keeping us on the straight and narrow!

2008 should be a good year for our Sport with the World Championship being in Northern Ireland and many other events to look forward to.

John Lewis Chairman

4 Treasurer - Gwynne Robinson - There was an error in the accounts, these will be re-submitted at the next meeting.

The meeting meanwhile agreed the accounts subject to the alteration of £25

5 Secretary - Derek Winslow -
It has been an interesting year for a new boy - attending the meetings in Bloxwich brought home to me what a lot of time and effort actually goes into running the BFTA. Then trying to keep everyone in WAFTA informed of what is going on there, and in turn getting their opinion on any questions raised has at time been frustrating.. Some of you will remember my comments to the effect that if I ask for the opinions of WAFTA members and I get only three replies, then it those three replies that count.

It has been suggested that I should circulate things more widely via e-mail. There are two reasons why I confine things mostly to club secretaries. First, my e-mail supplier limits the number of outgoing addresses I can use, secondly and more importantly, I can’t keep track of the membership of all the other clubs in WAFTA.

My biggest difficulty has been trying to get reports into a usable word processor format - using Lotus Wordpro, then saving with a MS Word extension has meant that text formatting sometimes goes berserk, sometimes blanking out whole lines of text. If ever you receive a document inside the body text of an e-mail, that’s why.

At the time of writing, we are still waiting for the minutes of the last BFTA meeting. I have been pressing for these, as some of the points on them may be of interest, and have been promised them before Tuesday.

As you know I am planning to move to Hampshire, but with the state of the housing market this could take months. Having said that, it would be helpful if someone could take over soon rather than having to do the changeover in a sudden rush. Ideally we could then both go to the next BFTA meeting on the 26th. Any offers?
